When a woman begins taking fertility drugs, one of the first questions that she may ask her doctor is whether or not she has an increased risk of having twins. This is a common fear among women and if you are taking Clomid it is probably a thought that has crossed your mind.

While there are certain side effects related to Clomid, and women who take this fertility drug do have an increased chance of becoming pregnant with twins, it is still a rather low risk. Most women who have begun taking Clomid will not need to worry about whether they will have twins or not because the increase in risk only rises slightly when you’re taking this drug.

1. More About Clomid

Clomid is the most popular fertility drug that doctors will start their patients on who are having issues becoming pregnant. It affects the body much in the same way that estrogen does and the brain actually thinks that the drug is true estrogen and will allow it to attach to the receptor cell. This process blocks the body’s natural estrogen so that ovulation can occur more regularly.

By using this drug to regulate your estrogen levels, your body will begin nurturing the follicles of your ovaries and make sure that they are producing healthy eggs that are ready to be fertile. This is a fantastic drug for women to take who are having issues with ovulation because it helps to start ovulation on a regular basis.

2. Why Does Clomid Increase Your Chances of Having Twins?

As Clomid begins to work in the body, it helps to ensure that you ovulate and encouraged the body to create healthy mature eggs. As this process is being completed, a woman will begin to develop high levels of estrogen as well. This can lead to the release of more than one healthy egg and if both eggs become fertilized, a multiple birth could occur.

This also means that it is more common for twins to be born if as fraternal rather than identical because identical twins are born from the same egg. Clomid increases the chances of becoming pregnant with twins because it increases the number of eggs that are released. This also means that women who have identical twins and have been taking Clomid probably would have had the twins even if they had not been taking the drug.

3. Chances of Becoming Pregnant with Twins

During your pregnancy there is about a 1% to 3% chance that a couple will become pregnant with twins. For women who are taking Clomid, this risk increases to about 7% to 8%. With just a minor increase in the risks, most couples will not need to worry about whether they will be having twins because they had taking Clomid.

Most couples who have twins have had them because of a multiple number of reasons. For example, some twins seem to run in certain families and a woman’s chances of having them is already high. There can also be a number of other items that increase the chances of becoming pregnant with twins, such as a woman’s age and her weight. It is likely that a combination of these items can increase your chances of becoming pregnant with twins more so than taking Clomid does.

Conclusion

If you have been struggling to become pregnant and your doctor has suggested taking Clomid to help increase your chances of becoming pregnant, it is common to consider the chance that you will become pregnant with twins. However, the chance that you will have twins is still fairly low and you typically do not need to worry about this issue.

Some couples who desire to have twins consider taking Clomid to improve their chances. There are a number of reasons why couples may prefer having twins and there are many people who are looking to improve their chances of becoming pregnant with twins. However, unless you are having a medical issue it is likely that your doctor will not prescribe you Clomid simply to increase your chances of becoming pregnant with twins.

There are many side effects that are related to taking fertility drugs and an increased number of twins is one of these items. If you are concerned about your chances of conceiving twins, it is best to discuss your concerns with your doctor so that you know what your risks may be when you’re taking Clomid.

Be careful when and how you use it

I bought into the hype and broke down and tried this product. After all, how can you resist something that claims that the fat is literally taken out of some of the food that you eat! I must say, though, pay attention to the directions on the package. I used it for a few days with none of the negative effects that many people experience. But during those times I ate fairly healthy meals and nothing too fatty. Then I went out with friends and didn't think about the fact I had taken these pills. I ate chicken wings, blue cheese and french fries. And spent most of the night and a good portion of the next day with several occasions of racing to the bathroom because of digestive issues. I suppose it shows that it does remove "stuff" from your diet because I sometimes have issues going at all and with using this product I went several times a day. But is it worth the risk? Besides, I have no idea if taking the pill was making a difference in my weight loss or if I was having success because I was being more careful in my food choices leading to lower calorie intake.

Weight Loss through Fear of Embarrassment

Was excited to try Alli, heard such great things. Did not see anything for the first couple days I took this. Then came the HORRIBLE side effects. Oily, greasy residue in your underwear and the toilet, and the smell. Oh my gosh. It was awful. Talk about eating healthy - for fear of what this will do to you. Didn't even finish the first bottle it was so terrible.
